Κέδρος - Kedros
Native to the Mediterranean region, Cedar (Κέδρος in Greek) trees are found at high altitudes of 1,000-2,200 metres, grow to a height of around 35 metres and commonly live 200-300 years.
One of the largest Greek Cedar forests can be found on the neighbouring island of Naxos.
In addition to it’s beautiful colour, Cedar is resistant to warping and cracking, making it a traditional material used for musical instruments such as Classical guitars, furniture making and panelling interior rooms.
Cedar wood and cedar oil are also natural moth repellents and have been used throughout history for chests and closets that contain woollen clothing.
